This home renovation included a complete refurbishment of a first floor West London apartment just off Hyde Park. The building is typical of mid XIX century with stucco-fronted facades and original period features including decorative cornices and mouldings.
The property originally comprised of an awkward layout and therefore required reconfiguration to the revised layout including the relocation of the kitchen to the rear of the grand living room space and converting the existing kitchen area into a powder room to serve the living space and make the existing bathroom an en-suite to the master bedroom.
The client brief was for the ultimate bachelor pad. A main feature of the space was to introduce a smart and sophisticated interior concept with style. Grey colour palettes and dark stained original floor with low level lighting for impact. We used geometric prints from Missoni for the scatter cushions combined with grey linens and chrome studding for headboards and a selection of trunk side tables for the bedroom.
With careful planning and design of the space we were able to create an additional powder room and transform the existing bathroom into a large , luxury en-suite for the master bedroom. The master bedroom was adapted and enlarged utilising the full width and height of the room for maximum use of space. The bedroom was redesigned with joinery encompassing a full wardrobe with panelling and suede inserts with a desk unit insert.
The brief for the project was also to gently introduce contemporary living into the property, delicately balancing the original ornate features with the new. Given the Grade II listed status of the building, it was crucial to keep specified period features as part of the protected heritage. We enhanced the original Aremberg panel pattern flooring in the living room which was carefully restored and stained to protect.
